September 30 saw the release of Ashley McBryde‘s latest project Ashley McBryde Presents: Lindeville. This new album is more of a conceptual album in the sense that most of the album features guest vocals to accompany and bolster the aims of the tracks. “We could have done it with me singing all the songs, and we thought about that. But I loved the way we sang on the work tapes so much, and to really do what was right by the characters that had developed, it needed to be different voices, and it needed to be people that were involved in creating these stories and developing this town,” Ashley McBryde says in an interview.

Meet The Characters In Ashley McBryde’s Lindeville Cinematic Universe!

Ashley McBryde Presents: Lindeville is chock-full of storytelling songs filled with colorful characters. It draws listeners right in with “Brenda Put Your Bra On” with Caylee Hammack and Nicolette Hayford aka Pillbox Patti. This fun track has friends gathering together to watch some drama go down in the neighborhood. “Jesus Jenny”, done with Aaron Raitiere, stars an alcoholic woman and her husband who puts up with her because he loves her. “Gospel Night At The Strip Club”, featuring Benjy Davis, laments the trials and tribulations of patrons at a strip club.

Brothers Osborne join in on “Play Ball”, a track that paints a picture similar to Field Of Dreams. Brandy Clark sings a part in “If These Dogs Could Talk”, reflecting on the things dogs see their owners get up to and the stories they would tell if they could. “The Missed Connection Section Of The Lindeville Gazette” is a charming track about people seeking strangers they’ve seen around town and are curious about. Ashley McBryde stays solo on a few 30-second tracks that serve as world-building tracks. These little blips are done in the style of radio commercial jingles and are a nice way for listeners to get a better picture of life in this crazy fictional town.

“I just hope that when a few, even just a handful, of people listen to the record and it ends with the line ‘Nothing but stars over Lindeville,’ they put their hands over their heart and say, ‘What a nice trip that was,'” Ashley says of her project. More music from Ashley McBryde arrives in 2023 with another album, one she refers to as “her proper third album. In the meantime, stream Ashley McBryde Presents: Lindeville below.
