March 25th saw Jake Owen release his latest single “Up There Down Here”. Due to be featured on his yet-to-be-titled upcoming seventh album, this is the fifth preview he’s released of his follow-up to 2019’s Greetings from…Jake.
“Up There Down Here” is a story of how opposites attract. He compares and contrasts his love interest’s angelic way to his rather devilish tendencies. It starts off balancing his wild nature to her more virtuous one.
I’m more four-letter word than a Sunday prayer
More backroad than a front pew
Ain’t always been tight with the man upstairs
And scriptures, I can quote a few
She’s a cross on a chain and a red wine stain
On her Mamaw’s hand-me-down Bible
I heart Tennessee, John 3:16
On the bumper of a white Chevy Tahoe
The song continues on to show how despite their differences, they can rely on each other and share love. With the lines “Thank the Lord the girl’s got my back / Hangs her halo by my Carhartt hat,” he states in the chorus. “Up There Down Here” is a quintessential Jake Owen track, emphasizing the sounds we’ve come to expect from him.
2022 has been very kind to Jake Owen. His most recent single “Best Thing Since Backroads” has been sitting comfortably near the top of the country radio airplay charts. His feel-good sounds are exactly what fans need to help those coming April showers turn into May flowers. We’re looking forward to see what this new album will sound like. In the meantime, stream “Up There Down Here” below. Make sure to follow Jake on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to see more updates on this coming album!
