Episode two of Caitlyn Smith‘s Lonely Together Instagram Live series brought a heavy-hitter for a guest: Academy Award-winning actress Mary Steenburgen! Mary has frequently collaborated with Caitlyn on several projects, and the love and friendship between these two women resonated through the screen.

Known for her roles in movies like Elf and Step-Brothers, Steenburgen won the Oscar for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for 1980’s Melvin and Howard. It wasn’t until 2007 following surgery did she gain interest pursuing music. She said that she felt she could hear music playing in her head non-stop, so to regain control, she started studying music and how to construct songs.

Mary and Caitlyn discussed some of the music they worked together on. They mentioned Smith’s song “I Love You More”, inspired by how Steenburgen tries expressing her love for her grandchildren. They also discussed their song “Glasgow (No Place Like Home”). Written for actress-singer Jessie Buckley for the movie Wild Rose, this song won Best Song at the Critic’s Choice Awards earlier this year. Smith performed an acoustic cover of the song to wrap up the stream. Currently, they are working the score for an animated adaptation of the book The Underneath along with Troy Burgess.

The next episode of Lonely Together airs Tuesday, March 31 at 2pm CST. Stream Caitlyn’s Supernova below and follow her on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter!
