Jon Pardi has a new album coming out, and the singles he’s been dropping in the lead-up continues with “Mr. Saturday Night”. In fact, Mr. Saturday Night will be the title of this fourth album, due for a September 2 release. “There is more life experience on Mr. Saturday Night than any album I’ve released before. I chose “Mr. Saturday Night” as the title track because it’s special to me. I’ve been hanging onto it for three years and can’t wait for people to hear it and the rest of these songs,” Jon Pardi says of this upcoming album.
“Mr. Saturday Night” is a bit of a persona Jon Pardi dons as a facade to heartbreak. Inside he’s hurting, but on the outside, he’s the life of the party. He turns the title of “Mr. Saturday Night” into saying that he “missed her Saturday night”, referencing his anguish over their breakup.
That’s why they call me Mr. Saturday night
Mr. always in
Mr. never missed a good time
I hear them say, I’m jealous of that guy
But they’ve only seen me in a neon light
Yeah, I smoke and drink
Smile and wink
And make ’em think I’m fine
They don’t know how much
I missed her Saturday night
Have You Ever Been Mr. Saturday Night?
“I feel like everybody wants to be Mr. Saturday Night at one point on the weekend and have a good time,” Jon says of the feelings behind the track. “But then you hear the song and—the way it’s so well written—it’s a sad song, but you don’t go there right away, because it’s also a fun song. That’s the thing about ‘Mr. Saturday Night,’ it’s more than meets the eye. It’s all fun until you get to the chorus.” Stream “Mr. Saturday Night” below.
