40 years in the making: country music number one on Billboard by none other than Luke Combs and Morgan Wallen.

For the first time since 1981, these two country artists have gotten their songs at the number one and number two spots not the Billboard Hot 100 charts with Combs’ “Fast Car” and Wallen’s “Last Night.” Combs’ song is a cover from none other than Tracy Chapman.

The last time this happened, in 1981, the spots were taken by “I Love a Rainy Night” by Eddie Rabbitt and “9 to 5” by Dolly Parton, respectfully.

Combs’ cover has taken off exponentially within its release, far surpassing Chapman’s original peak of number 6 on the charts. Meanwhile, Wallen’s “Last Night” has spent a grand total of eight consecutive weeks at the number one spot, which joins his previous hit “You Proof.”
