She’s written some of today’s country’s most notable hits. From Dan + Shay’s “Tequila” to Miranda Lambert’s “Automatic”, Nicolle Galyon has put her stamp on the country music scene. Now Nicolle Galyon is putting out music for herself, releasing the single “Winner”, the first single off her first solo album firstborn on June 6. Written in conjunction with Shane McAnally and Josh Osborne, “Winner” references her birthplace of Winner, South Dakota.
“Winner” is Nicolle Galyon’s life story wrapped in a pleasant package. With a gentle melody, this biographical masterpiece tells the story of someone who has been through the gamut, to say the least. She references loss, struggles, and challenges she had to face when she also faced pressure to be the best version of herself that she can be. Her vulnerability touches listeners with every word. Anyone who has had to contend with expectations will find common ground with Nicolle Galyon on this track.
I was born in a town called Winner.
And my name means victory.
So you can only imagine
All of the pressure I put on me (oh it’s)
2 points for the girl in the mirror
A gold star for the girl next door
But what good is being a winner
When all you’re doin’s keeping score?
“It was me making something that was purely me. I felt like, especially having this company I started to help other females to tell their stories, but I’ve never fully told my own,” Nicolle says about switching gears from writing songs for others to writing for herself. This is an excellent pivot for Nicolle as she focuses on sharing who she is as a songwriter for herself as opposed to channeling it through other artists. We only wish she did this earlier!
